SISC9 ~ Create Your Own Background! And a BONUS Tweaked Technique!

authorBeth | May 13, 2010

Happy Thursday, Groovy Groupies! Got lots of fun stuff for you this week!  First, we have some new releases, one that should remind you of a certain love triangle… or not!  It is called What The Heart Wants.  And another set of immortally inspired rubber sentiments!  If you liked Otherworldly Loves, you will completely dig Simply Supernatural!

Simply Supernatural_FINAL_watermarked twi-chibis-newSETwatermarked

PLUS – we have a special Tweaked Technique from published art author, Roni Johnson! You can find other fabulous techniques on her blog, Ink Stains, or in her book! Be sure to check out her site for more info!!

NOW!  On with the Tweaking…  This is a tweak on the shaving cream technique, and it presents all sorts of insanely cool possibilities for texture and pattern!  Give it a try – we CAN’T WAIT to see what you come up with!

Mousse Me! Supplies:

Mousse  *   Dye Reinker   * White Cardstock   *   Heat Tool or Embossing Gun   * Gloves (optional)   *   Scraper, Craft Spatula, Popsicle Stick (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Spread a layer of mousse over your cardstock.
  2. Add one drop of ink to the mousse. Spread around in circular motions with your fingers, scrapper, craft spatula, popsicle stick, etc. Don’t over blend.
  3. Melt the mousse with a heat tool. You will notice as the mousse begins to melt the ink will be absorbed into the cardstock in some really cool patterns.
  4. Repeat with 2nd and 3rd color(s) if desired.

Soooo…   This week we are challenging you to try out the Mousse Me technique, (or another technique you choose to share!), and create your own background!  It is so easy to get wrapped up in designing around your paper – make your paper fit your design!!  We can’t wait to see what you come up with!  Here are the Groovies with their amazing-as-always projects!

It’s a Groovy Day in the Neighborhood!

authorBeth |

Huzzah!  It is Thursday, which means that the grooviest Gurlz on the web will be sharing their crazy skills with us today!

Who knew I would ever love Thursdays?!

Moving along… I know you want to get down to the good stuff too!

Our challenge this week is from Marvelous Margie, and she wanted us to take an ordinary household item and make a container, worthy of groovy status.  Can you tweak it?  I bet you can – give it a try and share with us what you come up with!  Here is my underwhelming project…

photo3

I had been thinking about this one all week, too!  I think I will revisit this one when I have a little more time – maybe some bling and a little more ‘grunging’ it up.  It has potential, I think.   I am using this for the Copics, Pencils and random stick-type media I use on any given project – else it ends up scattered about and I have to search for the correct variance of gray I need!  A little irritating.  (I have never claimed to be particularly neat in my art cave…) :)    Here’s how I arrived at the final product…

I ate a BUNCH of Pirouette sticks to get the container emptied…  Just jiving.  These were from my in-laws visit about 2 years ago.  Can you say rubbah?  lol  So I pitched the nasty stale munchies, and began with this: photo1

Then I decided to grunge up the parts that would not be successfully covered with paper.  I used basic acrylic paints and a large flat brush and textured, smeared and scuffed the paint around until I liked the look.  (It is SO nice to not have to be perfect, right?!)

 photo2

(An aside from Tonya who is posting on Beth’s behalf: See Beth’s groovy nails? Aren’t they FANTASTIC!!!)

I let that dry – knowing that this kind of paint will rub off and scuff further if I so much as sneezed on it.  (Here is where you should definitely invest in a can of spray sealant and apply it – outdoors and liberally.)  I know that my project is all about being dirtied up, so I am not that concerned.  Plus, my sealant is packed away and I had about an hour smashed into a crazy day to do this!  LOL

I used some (are you sitting) Creative Memories paper to wrap the can… has CM come a long way, or what?  and then added Pierrette with 15, yes 15 Zots glue dots, to get her raised enough to clear that ginormous ribbon!  That part actually looks very cool – that she is raised.  And I printed her larger – she is about 5.5” tall!

photo4

Guess that is about it from this POV…  Now the good stuff!  ::Go see what the Gurlz are up to!::  They do NOT disappoint!

Please go amaze yourself with the unbelievable insanity of the Gurlz!

Feeling Groovy!

authorBeth | February 25, 2010

Are you a groovy chick? Well, we know you are because you’re reading this!  Good news, then!  StampInsanity Stamp Company is looking for some GroovyGurlz to round out our design team!  We are looking for 3-4 cool crafters who are kind, positive, fun and want to gain some exposure for their labors of love!  Is that you?  Read on…

What’s In It For Me, you say?

1.   FREE STUFF! You will get free digi or rubber images to work with!  How do you pass up free stuff?  Seriously!

2.   An Exclusive Discount on SI products while you are on the team, and various other bonuses on occasion!

3.   Cash Bonus on any SI image that is published in an outside magazine (not online)

4.   Exclusive first-looks at new images!

5.   Your projects will be featured in a public gallery/slideshow, linked to your blog, on the SI blog  main page.  Exposure, baby!

6.   Kickin’ GroovyGurlz badge for your blog.  Otherwise known as bragging rights.

7.   Periodic sponsor gifts… yep, potentially more FREE STUFF!

8.   Friendship and lots of fun!  How do you go wrong with THAT?

What is Required to Apply?

1.   You must have an active blog or website.

2.   A commitment to:

a.   Make a minimum of one (1) project per week using an SI image.  Unless it is a release week, any image will do!

b.   Enter *at least* 1 community challenge per month, linking your image back to SI.  More is better!

c.   Post your creations in gallery sites, such as SplitCoast Stampers, Stamp Shack, or PaperCraft Planet, etc, and any message forum you are a part of to promote the images.

d.   Along with your posts, include the image name and recipe, technique, etc – we want to know how you managed to create your masterpieces!!  If you use Copics, the color id numbers are a huge help!

e.   Be willing to post sales, challenges or any events on your blog, pertaining to the promotion of SI Stamps.

f.    Display the SI logo badge (with link to the SI blog) prominently on your blog.

g.   List BlogRoll of fellow GroovyGurls in your sidebar.

h.   Make a *sincere* attempt to meet deadlines.  Life happens – and it can get in the way, we know that.  However, if there is no communication and you miss more than two deadlines, you may be asked to turn in your Grooviness – also known as get the boot, the axe or get canned. We are striving for consistency for our followers! This is really important to us.

i.    If you are given sponsor product and do not follow through as scheduled – you will be asked to turn in your Grooviness.

j.    Visit the other GroovyGurlz and leave a short and sweet comment.  Well, sweet and as long as you want your comment to be! Subscribing via RSS is a great way to keep up with each others’ blogs!

k.   Allow your creations to be displayed publicly on the SI Partner Sites & Blog gallery slideshow.

l.    Commit to a 6-month term.  If you decide after a few weeks that you do not wish to continue, let us know.  Things come up, and we understand.  We just ask that you make a good, honest college try to make it through your term.

Well, that looks a lot worse than it is, doesn’t it?!  We just want to be clear what is expected… you will get lots of exposure from this gig if you play nice!  Everyone loves to see their hard work appreciated!  Ours is a labor of love, for sure – all the time and effort we put into our masterpieces is worthy of being seen!!

Interested? Duh! Here’s what you need to do:

Gather and email the following to GroovyGurlz@stampinsanity.com:

1.   Attach photos of three (3) projects that best represent your diversity, style and personality.  And let’s be honest – you’ll want to choose some of your greatest masterpieces.    ***Be sure to include at least one hand-colored image in the group***

2.   A link to your blog so that we can visit some of your other creations!

3.   A paragraph or two telling us about yourself, your crafting world, any previous Design Team experience (NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED!!!) and why you want to be a GroovyGurl.  You know, besides the fact that you are groovy and all…

4.   Do this by 11:59pm EST on Friday, March 5th.   Newest GroovyGurlz will be announced on Monday, March 8th.  Please be patient – we will let you know if you have been selected.  And while we anticipate a difficult decision – there will be Guest GroovyGurl (G3) spots opening up and we will keep your names for that selection when the time comes!

Thanks for your entries and we cant wait to see your works of heart!
